A Celebration Rooted in Nature and Culture
The Shirui Lily Festival is an annual cultural extravaganza held in Ukhrul district, Manipur, dedicated to the rare and endangered Shirui Lily (Lilium mackliniae), a flower found nowhere else in the world except the Shirui Kashong Peak.
First launched in 2017 by the Government of Manipur, the festival brings together tradition, adventure, art, and community in a spectacular showcase of the Tangkhul Naga people’s heritage, while promoting eco-tourism and environmental awareness.
🌿 The Shirui Lily: A Flower Like No Other
Discovered in 1946 by British botanist Frank Kingdon-Ward, the Shirui Lily blooms during the months of April to June. With its soft pink petals and graceful trumpet-like shape, this flower is revered not just for its beauty, but also for its rarity and fragility.
It was declared the State Flower of Manipur, symbolizing purity, resilience, and the spirit of the hills. The festival is a reminder of the urgent need to protect and preserve its natural habitat.
